“Saintly Women and Holy Fools” was the title of a recent article in The Wall Street Journal‘s Books section. Here’s the illustration I did for the article, based on Russian icons and featuring stylized portraits of the Count and Countess Tolstoy. As you may already know, I specialize in mimicking art styles from the Stone Age to Contemporary Art. Please check out my website for ADDITIONAL SAMPLES.
By the way, I was on vacation when the job came in, visiting my sister in Tennessee. But it sounded like a great project and I couldn’t turn it down. I painted in my sister’s sun room and ran the final over to a FedEx Office center to get the scan done. Then I tweaked the colors in Photoshop on my laptop and sent it off to the art director in New York.
